Florida Summers in Crocheted Style

Alright I know it’s getting hot out there with temps topping out in the 90’s. Although it rains almost everyday here it only creates more humidity and  we are now in the peak of our Florida summer months; which will last until mid-September. So here are some tips and tricks to keeping your hands busy but your body cool during the hot and humid months ahead. (I found some of these Tips and Trick from the LB Blog).

Try a lighter fabric: If you are used to using a heavier weight yarn, maybe experiment with something new like lace weight or fingerling yarns. Or try out a cotton-bamboo mix (which I am dieing to get my hands on); these are perfect for summer clothes as they are light and breathable .

Don’t forget about home projects: Summer is the best time to stock up on dishcloths, towels, and other home goods (all of which are made ideally with cotton). How about making an adorable apron like the one in the newest Crochet Today?

Your Favorite Furry Friends: I Found the most adorable Pet Project through the Crochet Dude on Facebook. It is something I definitely want to try making for my mom’s cat. Please don’t immediately freak out when you see the pattern, its in Finnish (I think), There are English translations at the bottom of the page.

And who can forget our other Furry friends and lovable pups! This Free Pattern at Planet Purl is just what every dog wants (or at least what their crafty owner wants for them).
Christmas in July: I don’t know about everyone but personally I hate being stressed out over the major holidays. The holidays are supposed to be spent gathering with friends and family to be thankful for the time together, and not over whelmed with Christmas gift projects still to be made! So why not start early? During the summer there is more free time ( or the illusion of it at least).  Keep your hands busy now, so there will be less stress later.

Happy Hooking

P.S. I did finally figure out what to do with the 100yrds of Mohair that I bought from a local yarn enthusiast. The Double Stitch Twins have a gorgeous pattern for a choker on the Red Heart Website, I must have this in my accessories.

Some good tips here … bamboo/cotton-blend yarn would be lovely for lightweight projects! =D
